  The International Preparatory Department prepares foreigners for university study in Russian; it lasts from 6 months to 1.5 years and accepts applications all year round. The first semester is Russian only; in the second, additional subjects in three tracks — engineering, economics, medical-biological. Graduates receive a certificate.

  The pre-university certificate, awarded after passing the track exams, allows entry to the first year of a bachelor's, specialist or master's programme at any Russian university.

  The International Preparatory Department page states that at the university most secondary-vocational, bachelor's, master's and postgraduate programmes are taught in Russian.

Scholarships and opportunities

  All foreign students sent to the university by the Russian Ministry (quota) receive a monthly academic stipend for the whole period of study regardless of academic performance.

Student housing

• The student-town page states that dormitory places are provided to state-funded (budget) students, in 2-, 3- and 4-bed rooms close to academic buildings, with reading rooms, gyms and paid self-service laundries.

  All foreign citizens who come to study under the quota are given a dormitory place on the terms set for Russian citizens studying on federal budget funding.

Student life and services

  The Association of Foreign Students was founded by foreign students on 27 May 2014 with support from the International Affairs Department; it unites foreign students, represents their interests, helps with adaptation and organises volunteer, cultural and sports events and national-culture festivals.

Practical information

  To request a study invitation: prepare the passport and education document (with supplement) with notarised Russian translations and a questionnaire, send scans to [email protected], and receive the invitation by email; processing takes 6–8 weeks. The passport must be valid for at least 1.5 years from the expected entry date.

• for international students

  Citizens of Azerbaijan, Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and South Ossetia do not need an invitation.
