The “I Study in Ulyanovsk” School Olympiad
An international academic olympiad for students in their final school year, including international students. Registration for the 2026/27 cycle is now open across seven school subjects, and the qualifying stage can be taken online.
31 March 2027 · 23:59 Moscow timeThat is when registration and the qualifying stage close together — the one date that matters most on this page. The final stage (1 April – 15 May 2027) is an in-person round for those who pass the qualifier, not a registration window.
163 days left until it closes31 March 2027📌 Make sure you're on the right track.
UlSTU runs a separate olympiad with an almost identical name for final-year Bachelor's students, linked to Master's admission. This page covers the school-student track only — its dates, rules and outcomes are entirely different from the student track.

🎓 And who exactly is meant here? The official site says школьники выпускных классов — students in their final school year, who take part before completing school.

What is the “I Study in Ulyanovsk” Olympiad?
The school track of “I Study in Ulyanovsk” is an international olympiad organised by Ulyanovsk State Technical University (УлГТУ). It is intended for students in their final school year and, from 2026, runs in a new format covering seven subjects and two competition stages: a qualifier and a final.
Students can use it to test their academic level in one or more subjects. Winners and prize-winners receive olympiad diplomas, which provide admission advantages when later applying to Bachelor's or Specialist programmes at UlSTU under the university's admission rules.
🔴 The distinction you need: the platform hosts two separate olympiads — this one for school students, and another for Bachelor's students leading to Master's admission, which has its own page here. The timetables and the outcomes are completely different.
What do winners receive?
🎯 Mind the limits of this benefit: the official page does not currently define the exact admission advantage for the upcoming admission cycle. So do not treat the result as automatic admission, nor as a Russian government-quota nomination, nor as a funded place, nor as a tuition waiver — unless the applicable admission rules explicitly confirm it.
↳ And “participation is free” means entering the olympiad costs nothing — not that studying afterwards is free of charge. Those are two entirely different things.
How to register
Everything happens through the official olympiad platform:
📌 Document submission is mandatory, but the public page does not currently provide one complete universal document list. Follow the instructions shown in your account after registering — don't send documents based on guesswork.

The online qualifying test opens from this date, alongside some in-person participation organised by the university.
This is the date that matters most. Registration and the qualifying stage close at the same moment.
Held in person at venues announced by the university — this is not a registration window.
The university publishes the olympiad results no later than 31 May 2027.
📌 This timeline is taken from the official site study-in-ulyanovsk.ulstu.ru on 1 September 2026. The venue schedule for the final stage has not been published yet — the university says it will appear on the site later.
Subjects available
The seven subjects exactly as announced on the official site:
Who can take part?
That is the official wording verbatim (школьники выпускных классов) — you take part while still in your final year, before receiving your school certificate.
The platform itself is described as open to Russian and international participants, and the olympiad's official name carries the word “International”.
The subjects, the questions and the demonstration tasks are all in Russian — including the “Russian Language” subject itself. Factor this in before choosing your subject.
If it isn't clear whether your current year counts as a final school year, confirm your eligibility with the organisers before taking part. We can't confirm an exception that isn't written in the source.
📌 The official source states no age condition at all (neither a minimum nor a maximum) — the only published requirement is that you are in your final school year. Anything beyond that appears through your account on the platform after you register.
Tap any question to open the answer ▾
💬Is registration open now?
Yes. Registration opened on 1 September 2026 and runs until 31 March 2027 at 23:59 Moscow time. The qualifying stage begins on 20 September.
💬Can I enter before receiving my final school certificate?
The olympiad is designed for students in their final school year, so participants normally take part before completing school.
If your education system works differently, confirm your eligibility with the organisers before taking part.
💬I'm a university student. Is this the right track?
No — this page covers the school-student track only.
UlSTU has a separate student olympiad for final-year Bachelor's students leading to Master's admission, and it has its own page here:
💬Is the whole olympiad online?
No. The qualifying stage is available online, but the final is held in person at venues announced by UlSTU.
💬Will I have to travel to Russia for the final?
That is not confirmed. UlSTU says the final may be held at the university, at schools, or at other venues, including venues abroad during university visits.
Wait for the official venue schedule before making travel plans.
💬Does winning give me the Russian Government Scholarship?
Not according to the information currently published for this school track.
Winners and prize-winners receive diplomas with admission advantages at UlSTU, but the official page does not state that winners are automatically nominated for a government-quota place.
💬Does winning mean automatic admission?
The official page states that diploma holders receive “admission advantages”. It does not currently define that advantage as automatic admission.
Check the admission rules for the year in which you apply to see what the advantage actually is.
💬Is participation free?
Yes — participation in the olympiad is free according to the official olympiad page («на безвозмездной основе»).
⚠️ Note the scope: that means entering the olympiad costs nothing — not that studying at the university afterwards is free of charge.
💬Can I choose more than one subject?
Yes. When registering you may select one or more subjects from the seven.
💬Are practice materials available?
Yes. UlSTU provides official demonstration tasks for all seven subjects on the olympiad website — and the direct links are in the “Official demonstration tasks” section above.
