This olympiad is for international students: citizens of any country other than Russia, and stateless persons. That includes people living inside Russia, as long as they are not Russian citizens. Russian citizens are directed to the «Vysshaya Proba» olympiad instead.

The opportunity

What is МОМ?

Международная олимпиада молодежи (МОМ) — the International Youth Olympiad — is a free annual olympiad run by HSE University (НИУ ВШЭ) for international school students, held in Russian. The official site describes it as HSE's largest international project for prospective undergraduates, running for more than ten years.

Its stated purpose, in the olympiad's own charter, is to widen access for talented young people from abroad to HSE's Bachelor's and Specialist programmes, and to grant additional rights to foreign nationals competing for places within the Russian Government quota — as well as on fee-paying places.

You choose from 17 tracks (up to 7 in the same entry), each tied to specific Bachelor's programmes across HSE's campuses. Ten tracks run in two formats — in person in your country, or online under proctoring — and seven are online only.

👯 Three different olympiads at the same university — don't mix them up: МОМ (this page) is for international school students → Bachelor's, at olymp.hse.ru/inter. «Vysshaya Proba» is a school olympiad at olymp.hse.ru/mmo — the route the site points Russian citizens to. «Vysshaya Liga» is for university students and graduates → Master's. We have a separate page for each.

The potential prize

What winning gets you

🥇 A first-degree diploma for winners (победитель) and a second- or third-degree diploma for prize-winners (призёр) — decided by the ranking of results within each track separately, and issued electronically
🏛️ Additional rights when competing for the Russian Government quota — the charter states that winners and prize-winners may use the diploma to enter HSE Bachelor's/Specialist programmes with additional rights within the quota, under HSE's own internal regulations
💸 A tuition discount on fee-paying places — the charter's wording is «скидка по оплате обучения», under HSE's internal regulations. No percentage has been published for the МОМ-2027 cycle
🕑 The diploma is valid for two years from the date the winners' lists are approved — so a МОМ-2027 diploma serves the 2027 and 2028 admission cycles. Each diploma can be used only once
📜 An electronic certificate of participation for everyone who takes part, diploma or not

🎯 How it actually works: the diploma gives you a right inside a competition, not a guaranteed place. And for that right to work you must send your documents to HSE within the deadlines published on the olympiad page — miss the deadline and the additional rights are cancelled. Covering tuition through the quota ≠ covering living costs.

ℹ️ The «which diploma → which programme» matrix has not been published for МОМ-2027. What is on HSE's site today is a document literally titled «Admission criteria for МОМ-2026 diploma holders … in 2026», marked «draft». We show it here as preparation material only — it is not a rule for the МОМ-2027 cycle.

🌍Who exactly can take part

The basic rule: citizens of any country other than Russia, and stateless persons.
School students outside Russia: sitting tasks for grade 10 or 11 in the Russian system (grades 11 or 12 on a 12-year programme).
School students inside Russia: foreign nationals in Russian secondary general education, grades 10–11.
Vocational college students (СПО): in their final or second-to-final year — inside or outside Russia — sitting tasks for grade 11.
School leavers: anyone who has completed education equivalent to Russian secondary general education and is under 25, sitting grade-11 tasks.
The grade you pick at registration is binding: the registration page says — if you finish school in 2027 or earlier choose «11 класс»; if you finish in 2028 choose «10 класс».
⚠️ This is not a formality: anyone registered for grade 11 who sits grade-10 tasks and wins cannot use the additional rights in 2027 or 2028. The reverse (registered for 10, sat 11) can use them in 2028.

Format and stages in this table come from the cycle's own charter (clauses 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7), so they are confirmed for МОМ-2027.
⚠️ Contest length comes from each track's page on the site, and those pages are not labelled for the 2027 cycle — several still say «МОМ-2026» outright. The charter states that the methodological commission sets the duration and that it may differ by track and by format. Treat it as a preparation signal and confirm it from the timetable when it appears.
Two-stage tracks (Design · Journalism · Media Communications · Advertising & PR): stage one is written work or a creative project submitted online; stage two is an online interview for those who get through.

📝Registration and the motivation letter

One registration only per student. If you register more than once, the first entry counts and the rest are cancelled.
Up to 7 tracks in one entry — provided the timetable lets you sit all of them.
You can edit your choices (add or drop tracks) until registration closes.
The motivation letter is mandatory: without it you are not admitted to the contests at all.
Its requirements: at least 500 characters including spaces · free form · written by you yourself · covering who you are, your academic achievements, your motivation for entering, and your further education plans.
The jury does not grade the letter — it is an admission condition, not a score.
Your registration data is your responsibility: the organising committee does not accept complaints arising from a wrongly filled form. There is a hotline for technical problems: +7 (499) 325-65-51.

Регламент §2.3 – §2.8 and Положение §3.3 · §3.4 (draft) + the registration form — verified 14 September 2026

💻Contest day — online

14 tracks run online through a proctoring system, following instructions published on the olympiad page. (Design, Journalism and Media Communications have their own separate rules.)
You have 20 minutes from the scheduled start to connect to the system. Connect within that window and you still get the full duration.
A photo ID document (the original) is required when you connect — or an original birth certificate if you have none.
You must be alone in the room — anyone else present is categorically forbidden.
You may not leave the proctor's monitored zone for the whole contest.
Break the rules and the proctor disconnects you, with no right to retake that track's contest.
Technical failure? Your saved result counts, if there is one.
Entered the same track twice? The first result recorded in the system counts.

Регламент §4.16 – §4.24 (draft) — verified 14 September 2026

🏫Contest day — in person

Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start.
Bring: your original passport or photo ID — or an original birth certificate if you have none.
Answer in black or blue ink only — work written in pencil is not marked. You bring your own pens and pencils.
Allowed on your desk: your ID documents · permitted stationery · drinking water and chocolate · and a simple standalone calculator (not built into a phone) — for the Biology track specifically.
You may not leave the room during the contest.
When you finish you hand the title (registration) sheet and your answer sheet to the committee at the venue — handing in early ends your participation.
Your paper is anonymised before marking, so the marker does not know whose it is.

Регламент §4.6 – §4.13 · §5.1 (draft) — verified 14 September 2026

🚫Prohibitions, disqualification and appeals

Forbidden throughout the contest (online and in person): electronic devices at your place · aids, reference materials or anything not expressly permitted · talking to or exchanging anything with others · leaving your seat without permission. In person the ban covers the exam room and the whole building until the contest time is up.
Breaking the rules costs you the right to continue, with no right of appeal. In person a removal act is drawn up, signed by two committee members and the participant, and that track's result is annulled.
Plagiarism: the jury may check work with the «Антиплагиат» system — and where plagiarism is found, the work is annulled.
There are no appeals at all: not on the content of the tasks, their structure, the marking system, the results, or the sanctions. Both documents state this explicitly.
🌐 Machine translation and browser translation: not resolved officially in the published instructions so far — no text in this cycle's documents either permits or forbids it by name. What is explicitly published is a ban on opening other tabs or applications during a proctored contest, and a ban on any «hints». Do not build on it.
🤖 AI tools: no general published rule for МОМ-2027. (In the МОМ-2026 cycle the Journalism and Media Communications tasks explicitly required using a GPT model — that was a track rule, not a general one, and it is not yet confirmed for 2027.)

Регламент §4.11 · §4.14 · §5.3 · §7.1 and Положение §3.5 (draft) — verified 14 September 2026

🏅Results and diplomas

Winners and prize-winners are determined by the ranking of results within each track separately.
A first-degree diploma = winner (победитель) · second and third degree = prize-winner (призёр).
How many winners and prize-winners there are is decided by remote electronic vote of the organising committee and the jury, taking into account the views of the Bachelor's programmes that match each track.
Scores and winners' lists are published on the olympiad page no later than 24 December 2026.
Electronic diplomas by 30 January 2027, and every participant receives an electronic certificate of participation.

Положение §3.6 – §3.9 and Регламент §5.4 · §6.1 · §8.1 (draft) — verified 14 September 2026

🎓Post-win benefits — what is confirmed and what is missing

✅ Confirmed in the cycle's charter: olympiad results are valid for two years from the approval of the lists; each diploma can be used once to enter HSE Bachelor's/Specialist programmes with additional rights within the Russian Government quota, and also to obtain a tuition discount on fee-paying places — both under HSE's internal regulations.
✅ Independent evidence outside HSE: the olympiad appears on the Ministry of Science and Higher Education's list of school olympiads whose winners may apply for the Russian Government quota in the 2026/27 cycle (entry 4: «Международная олимпиада НИУ ВШЭ»).
⛔ Not there, and we will not invent it: no МОМ source offers admission «without entrance exams» (БВИ), no «100 points», no numeric discount percentage, and no guaranteed place. This page says nothing beyond what is written.
⏳ Not yet published for МОМ-2027: the «which diploma → which programme → which campus» matrix, and the deadlines and documents a winner must submit after the results.
📄 The only reference available today is a previous-cycle document: «Admission criteria for МОМ-2026 diploma holders in 2026», marked «draft». Its structure: for each track, a winner's diploma and a prize-winner's diploma, each against a list of specific Bachelor's programmes at named campuses — and every row reads «100% scholarship». Use it to understand the shape, nothing more.
⚠️ One post-win step worth knowing now: a winner holding additional rights within the quota must send their documents to HSE within the deadlines published on the olympiad page — otherwise the additional rights are cancelled.

Положение §1.2 · §3.10 and Регламент §6.2 · §6.3 (draft) + the МОМ-2026 criteria document (draft) + the Ministry's 2026/27 list — verified 14 September 2026

⏳Not yet officially announced (as of 14 September 2026)

The «МОМ-2027 participation rules» — the home page still says they «will be published before 10 September», and that date has passed with nothing published.
The detailed timetable and the list of countries, cities and venues for in-person contests — the site says October 2026.
Online and proctoring instructions specific to МОМ-2027 — what the track pages currently link to are МОМ-2026 files and instructions (the previous cycle's dates are inside them).
The МОМ-2027 admission-benefit matrix and the document deadlines for winners.
An English-language version of the olympiad — the charter says «the working language is Russian» with no published exception, and the site's own English page says information about olympiads held in English «will be published here soon». (In the МОМ-2026 cycle the Foreign Languages track was held in English — that is not confirmed for 2027.)
📌 And a note on the documents themselves: the «Положение» and «Регламент» published for the 2026/2027 cycle are both marked «ПРОЕКТ» (draft), and the approval order's number and date are still blank. The dates on this page are also displayed on the site's own official pages.

The timetable, documents, home and the site's English pages + the headers of both documents — verified 14 September 2026

The path

How to register

1
Open the registration page

At olymp.hse.ru/inter/reg2027 — the form is on the page itself, and there is no fee.

2
Draft your motivation letter first

At least 500 characters including spaces, written by you: who you are, your academic achievements, why you are entering, and your education plans. Without it you are not admitted.

3
Fill in your details

Name, date of birth, citizenship, country of residence, and the country, city and name of your school.

4
Choose your «participation grade» carefully

Finishing school in 2027 or earlier → 11 класс. Finishing in 2028 → 10 класс. This choice governs your rights after winning, so get it right.

5
Pick your tracks (from 1 to 7)

You can change them until 29 October. Check each track's format (in person / online) before you choose.

6
Upload the letter and submit

And accept the personal-data terms. One registration only — if you repeat it, the first one counts.

7
Wait for your personal account — 20 October

Login details are sent to every registered participant by 20 October 2026, and from that date you choose your participation format and venue.

8
Prepare: 21 September – 2 November

Eligibility

Who can take part?

A foreign national at school outside Russia

Grade 10 or 11 in the Russian system (or 11 and 12 on a 12-year programme) — sitting the tasks for the grade you registered under.

A foreign national living and studying inside Russia

Russian secondary general education, grades 10–11 — as long as you are not a Russian citizen.

A vocational college student (СПО)

In your final or second-to-final year, inside or outside Russia — sitting grade-11 tasks.

A school leaver under 25

You have completed education equivalent to Russian secondary general education (abroad or in Russia) and are under 25 — sitting grade-11 tasks.

A Russian citizen

Outside the scope of МОМ. The official site points Russian citizens to the «Vysshaya Proba» olympiad.

Your level of Russian

The contests are in Russian, and no English version is published for this cycle — so test yourself on past papers before committing to a track.

Common questions

Tap any question to open the answer ▾

💬Is registration open now?

Yes — from 10 September 2026 until 29 October 2026, on the official registration page. The period can be extended by decision of the organising committee's chair, so watch the site.

💬I'm from Egypt / an Arab country — can I take part?

Yes. The condition is that you are not a Russian citizen (or are stateless), and that you fall into one of the categories: a grade 10 or 11 school student, a vocational college student in the last two years, or a school leaver under 25.

💬What language is the contest in? Is there an English version?

Russian. The cycle's charter says «the working language of the olympiad is Russian» with no published exception, and the registration page repeats it. No English version is announced for any track this cycle — the site's own English page says information about olympiads held in English will be published soon.

💬Can I use browser translation or Google Translate during the contest?

Not resolved officially in the published instructions so far. No text in this cycle's documents permits or forbids it by name. What is explicitly published: you may not open other tabs or applications during a proctored contest, and any «hints» are banned. The absence of an explicit ban is not permission — wait for the МОМ-2027 instructions.

💬How many tracks can I choose?

From 1 to 7 in a single entry, provided the timetable lets you sit all of them. You can change your choices until registration closes on 29 October.

💬In person or online — and when do I decide?

Ten tracks offer both formats and seven are online only (see the table above). The choice opens in your personal account from 20 October 2026 — login details are sent to all registered participants by 20 October. The list of countries and cities for in-person contests is published in October.

💬Is the motivation letter graded?

No — the jury does not assess it. But it is mandatory: without it you are not admitted to the contests. The requirements: at least 500 characters including spaces, written by you, covering who you are, your achievements, your motivation and your plans.

💬Can I appeal my result?

No. Both documents state explicitly that appeals are not available — not on task content, structure, the marking system, results, or sanctions.

💬What if something breaks technically during the online contest?

Your saved result counts, if there is one. If you enter the same track twice, the first recorded result counts. And if you are late, you have 20 minutes from the scheduled start to connect — after that, no.

💬Does winning guarantee me a government scholarship?

No. What the charter says is that the diploma gives you additional rights when competing for places within the Russian Government quota at HSE, and a discount on fee-paying tuition — both under the university's internal regulations. That is a right inside a competition, not a guaranteed place. And you must send your documents by the deadline or the right is cancelled.

💬Is the diploma useful at other Russian universities?

The МОМ documents talk about admission to HSE. Separately, the olympiad is on the Ministry of Science's list of school olympiads tied to the Russian Government quota for 2026/27 — that is independent evidence, but not a promise of benefits at any particular university. Ask the university you are targeting.

💬How long is the diploma valid, and how many times can I use it?

Two years from the date the winners' lists are approved — so this cycle's diploma works for the 2027 and 2028 admission cycles. And each diploma can be used only once to enter with the additional rights.

💬I registered for grade 11 but sat grade-10 tasks (or vice versa) — what happens?

This is a sharp point in the charter: registered for 11, sat 10, and won ⇒ you cannot use the additional rights in 2027 or 2028. Registered for 10, sat 11, and won ⇒ you can use them in 2028. So get «participation grade» right on day one.

💬Which HSE programmes accept a diploma in my track?

The МОМ-2027 matrix has not been published. What exists today is a previous-cycle document («Admission criteria for МОМ-2026 diploma holders in 2026»), marked «draft» — it maps each track to a list of specific programmes and campuses, all at 100% scholarship. Use it to understand the shape only, and wait for this cycle's matrix.

💬Which olympiad is this exactly? I've heard of «Vysshaya Proba» and «Vysshaya Liga»

МОМ (this page) is for international school students → Bachelor's at HSE. «Vysshaya Proba» is a school olympiad at olymp.hse.ru/mmo, the route the site points Russian citizens to. «Vysshaya Liga» is for university students and graduates → Master's. Three separate things.
